Matthew K. Swaim, CFA, CPA is a Managing Director of Advisory Research, Inc., a value-oriented investment firm with over $9 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2012. Advisory Research manages domestic and international equity strategies utilizing a bottom-up, internally-generated research process focused on providing superior risk-adjusted returns and downside protection. Prior to joining Advisory Research, Matt worked in the assurance and business advisory group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and as an equity analyst with a mutual fund company. Matt holds a B.S. in accounting and business administration from the University of Kansas and an M.B.A. from the Kelley School of Business - Indiana University.back

"All investors should be valuation conscious," Swaim says. "We'd rather have that risk/reward in our portfolio than a growth stock that runs into hiccups because they require capital at the wrong time or there are bumps in the economy. In this type of environment, given the prices you're willing to pay for value, it makes more sense."
